Ventura County Contractors hit a hole in one for students
The Ventura County Contractors Association (VCCA) is dedicated to improving and supporting the local community. Twenty-Five years ago the VCCA created the Ted Flesher Memorial Golf Tourney to help raise funds for student scholarships.
"The VCCA wants to ensure that students have the opportunity and support to begin a career in the construction area," said Tommy Tatangelo, president of the VCCA.
Thirty-eight teams consisting of 152 players participated in this year´s tournament at Spanish Hills County Club in Camarillo on July 22. Sponsors donated more than $8,000 in raffle prizes, including two wide-screen Sony LCD televisions.
Tournament sponsors raise funds for VCCA´s scholarship foundation, awarded annually in May to students pursuing a career in the construction industry. Major sponsors for the 2009 event included OST Trucks and Cranes and Cybercopy Graphics.
Luncheon sponsors GRD Construction and Tact Construction were joined by beverage sponsors Center Glass Company, J Pave Engineering, Ogilvy Hill Insurance and Precon Industries, who also committed more than the tournament entry fee for the fundraiser.
Nearly $20,000 was raised for VCCA's scholarship and community contributions program from the 2008 tournament.
"We want to thank the Tournament Committee, sponsors and course volunteers as well as all of those who participated, for making this year´s tournament a special and successful event," Tatangelo said. "We will continue to honor Ted Flesher as a pillar of our community and carry out his mission of providing scholarships to deserving students in his memory."
