As a senator representing Pennsylvania from 1995 to 2007, Rick Santorum tackled issues ranging from welfare reform and the war in Iraq to farmland preservation and health savings accounts. On Thursday, October 8, the former senator and author will lend his support to the Right to Life League of Southern California when he appears as guest speaker at the League´s annual gala, which will take place at The Center at Cathedral Plaza in downtown Los Angeles.

"We hold a gala annually but this event will be a special celebration of our 40th anniversary," says Kathleen Lund, President of the Board of Directors. "Although we were founded in 1969 to address the needs of women faced with an unplanned pregnancy, our programs have expanded today to include a vast array of services."

These programs, Lund adds, include counseling services for women in crisis pregnancies, 24-hour hotlines, maternity homes, a dual parent and teen sexual integrity program, and post-abortion counseling. In addition, the Right to Life League supports three crisis pregnancy centers and six medical clinics in Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, San Diego County, San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County and Kern County.

Anne Hennessy, Executive Director of the Right to Life League of Southern California is especially pleased that Senator Santorum has agreed to join supporters at this year´s gala. "As the author of ´It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good´, Senator Santorum has addressed many issues that are of especial interest to our supporters," Hennessy explains. "We´re also anxious to learn more about the work he´s been doing since he left Congress."

Currently Senator Santorum is a Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington DC. Founded in 1976, the Center is dedicated to promoting the application of the Judeo-Christian moral tradition to critical issues of public policy. Santorum is also at work on a second book on radical Islam and its growing alliances worldwide – a challenge he describes as "the gathering storm of the 21st century."

Tickets for the Right to Life League of Southern California´s gala are $75/person and can be ordered by calling the League´s offices in Pasadena at 626.398.6100. The event will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m.

Monies raised from the Right to Life League´s annual dinner will benefit the many projects supported by the Southern California chapter. These include seven medical clinics offering free medical services, including pregnancy testing, ultrasound scanning and some minor pre-natal care; a teen Sexual Integrity program that, to date, has reached 145,000 students nationally; and ´Project Rachel´, a healing ministry for women who have undergone abortions.

"I am excited about the opportunity to address The Right to Life League of Southern California," says Senator Santorum, who will address supporters on ´how we will win the battle in America to recognize the intrinsic value of human life´. "These warriors for the Culture of Life are on the frontlines of the battle being waged by those in Hollywood who tell us through screen and song that life is just a choice. The Right to Life League´s work bringing the message of hope to those in their community is invaluable in the face of the cultural decay we see everyday."

"The Right to Life League was founded on the principle that all human life, from conception to natural death, is sacred," adds Hennessy. "We´re a nonprofit and nonpolitical organization committed to supporting not only women who are experiencing crisis pregnancies but the disabled and elderly."
