Dobbs, Beck, Birthers, Mormons, and Racism

Stan Grimes
The Birther movement among Republicans is like a cancer that just won´t go away. In fact the movement seems to be picking up more popularity among conservative voters. If Congressmen and women want to have any relevance in the world of government, they must squash the strange wing nuts in their base of voters. Can´t one Republican official take the stage and say: "President Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural citizen of our country?" We know that CNNs´ commentator, Lou Dobbs (self-proclaimed independent), isn´t helping much. He has lost a significant group of viewers, who expected unbiased and "independent" reporting from the frumpy old guy. Guess what, Lou is playing piper music to the loony and fragmented Republican base. Independent? Nope. Soon to be out of a job? Maybe.

My question is why? Why won´t a party official stand up and declare the truth? The only possible answer is that officials in the Republican Party want to perpetuate this radical and unfounded movement. What other conclusion could there be? The state of Hawaii has declared him a rightful citizen. As a matter of fact, Congress declared him to be a citizen by a majority vote, no dissenters, when a roll call was made for the fiftieth anniversary declaration by Hawaii. Man, what do the little radicals on the right want, a movie of the birthing process itself? Geez.

What else is going on? Well, the beer fest at the Whitehouse is over thankfully. Maybe the media will now concentrate on the bigger issues in front of us, you know like healthcare, environment, and poverty.

Speaking of media, Glenn Beck continues to be an ass. Last week he called the President a racist and that he personally thought the president hated Whites. This is a classic case of what psychologists call "projection." Beck just might be the man, who hates his fellow Black man. Man, when is Fox going to get rid of this guy? He´s crazier than Rush Limbaugh and that my friend takes some work to accomplish.

I wouldn´t be at all surprised by Beck´s comments, but they come from a guy, who happens to be a Mormon. That´s right crazy Glenn is a Mormon. If anyone knows a little Mormon history, they´ll understand where I´m coming from with this one. The Mormon Church excluded Blacks for over a hundred years from being "complete" members of the Church. I believe it was in the late 1970s the Church President declared Blacks could finally become complete members claiming a Revelation from the Almighty as the motivation for their change in thinking. Personally, and having once been a Mormon myself, I think government pressure finally forced the Church´s hand you know equal rights and silly stuff like that.

So, Glenn, your own church practiced racism for over a hundred years. Yet, you insist our President is a racist. Are you blind? The President´s own mother was White and his grandparents. What part of your confused mind doesn´t understand? Oh, that´s right I forgot. You work at Fox making millions of dollars. I´m sure your Church loves you very much for giving them fifteen or twenty percent of your income…uh, is that before or after taxes?

What a great news week this has been. However, August is here and Congress is leaving town, must be nice. Congress takes a vacation while families in trouble economically, medically, and emotionally; receive no vacation from their woes. I do hope you have fun back in your home states and please drive safely, or be chauffeured safely, and don´t text and drive at the same time.
