The Advantages Of Building Email Lists In Smaller Niches
Well I personally think that you can potentially make a lot more money by building email lists in less competitive niches. The trouble with the internet marketing niche is that people who are interested in learning how to make money online will generally tend to sign up to several lists to get as much information as possible. Therefore you face an uphill battle just getting your emails opened.
Another problem you face is that if you intend promoting the same types of products that many other internet marketers are promoting, then you are likely to struggle to make many sales. This is because many of these top marketers will have thousands of subscribers (many of whom may well be on your list as well) and can offer impressive bonuses to encourage subscribers to buy products through them.
If you focus on smaller niches outside of this internet marketing niche, however, you will generally find that there is much less competition. In fact your chosen niche may only have one or two dominant players, so therefore there is plenty of scope for you to build an online presence and build up a sizeable list of prospects in this niche.
When I first started out online I quickly started building an email list in the internet marketing niche and although I made a small amount of money, it was only after I started entering much smaller niches that I started to generate some meaningful profits. In my experience you can make more money from being a big player in a small niche than you can from being a small player in a huge overcrowded niche.
If you are going to build email lists in highly competitive niches then you really need to focus on offering high quality content to your subscribers. If you don't do this, then people will simply ignore your emails or unsubscribe from your list because you are not offering anything different to all the other people that they are subscribed to.
So to sum up, although you can make money in the internet marketing niche (I still have a list in this niche myself, albeit not one I spend too much time on), I would always recommend you start off in a much smaller niche because these niches are far less competitive which means that your subscribers in this niche will pay much more attention to you, and you can therefore generate many more sales.
