Can Stomach Satiety Spot Stimulation Halt EGO ?
At present article I will discuss a related subject which I named Satiety Gratification.
Satiety Gratification – according to my concept - is the positive emotional reaction of satisfaction in response to gastric filling.
Satiety Gratification may be classified into:
1. Deferred Satiety Gratification: This is the mature form, and may be defined as the patience of obese people to control meal volumes by eating lesser amount of food, aiming at great weight loss in the future.
2. Instant Satiety Gratification: This is the immature form, and may be defined as the inability of a person to control the size of the meal volume. In my opinion it is a leading cause of obesity. I found that most obese want their huge meals instantly, and have no ability to cancel any part of it. I named this cause of obesity: Early Gratification related Obesity or "EGO".
Researchers found that children who has Deferred gratification showed higher self-regulation, hence had a lower BMI later on when they become teen aged, in contrast to those who has instant gratification.
Most diets whether low-carb, low fat, or else; are only suitable for managing mild forms of overweight and do not suit managing super obesity.
I train my obese patients who have Early Gratification related Obesity (EGO) to change their habits. To assist in making these changes, I asked them to remember to eat 3 almond nuts together (which I give the name almond Luqaimat) each hour for at least 5 successive hours prior to their daily main meal. The target is to keep their stomach satiety spot at high level of activity, hence developing early satiety, so they can tolerate Deferred Satiety Gratification.
The gastric mucosa at the fundus region may be the area that contains the nerves of satiety. I think that the afferent vagal fibers present at that area are specialized in satiety sensation. It is apparent that if such area is stimulated repeatedly several times daily, it may result in satiety for several hours, the stomach will then be calm, and its muscles will not relax most of the day, hence we will not feel urgency to eat large volumes of food. The earlier we feel satiety sensation the greater will be the weight lost.
Nowadays, I am researching the efficiency of my postulated ESSS theory as an important factor in halting EGO. 35 volunteer obese patients will be selected to investigate such efficiency using MRI examinations.
In this study I will inform my patients to eat five successive ordinary – Luqaimat, before eating whatever they desire and stop when reaching satiety sensation.
In the following week, they will be instructed to eat five successive almond – Luqaimat, before eating what ever they desire and stop when reaching satiety sensation.
By comparing the amount of food volume in the stomach needed to induce satiety in both conditions, we can deduce the efficiency of ESSS as a breakthrough measure in managing overeating and obesity.
I will announce the results before the end of July 2009.
