Amazing Kindle Statistic
A small sample of 1700 Kindle customers revealed that 38% of the customers were above the age of 55. Further, 37% were between the age of 34 and 55, then came the balance 25% below age 34.
A small group above 55 found it extremely useful as they were stricken by arthritis and turning pages in a normal print copy painful. Kindle is a boon to them.
I was under the impression that the typical Kindle customer had ear plugs on listening to music with the E-reader in hand and a sandwich on the lap. I think Amazon had something to do with this impression as it talked about college going students buying this hardware. The market appears to be much larger even though penetration at present is small.
Now unless this sample of 1700 is highly biased it shows that Kindle has very wide acceptability. When it starts to download local newsletters and bulletins it will register further gains in popularity. And once it handles color, it could become an all time winner. Even now hard copy book distributors must be worried about their business, Kindle appears to be eating into eat.
A few years ago I read about a school in Maastricht which had become completely paperless. The students of that school had been given e-Readers but Kindle is different. With network connectivity the options are tremendous. There have been a number of such e-Readers produced so far with low degrees of success. Kindle seems set to change the trend.
Kindle is not feeding a fad, it has come to stay. Now let´s see how many look alike devices spring forth from Cincinnati to China.
