Leave Joe Biden Alone
This past week amidst the possible swine flu pandemic Vice-President Biden said he would not travel in confined spaces and followed a directive from the CDC officials and the President in saying that there cannot be enough emphasis on washing ones hands. The right and the media had a field day with that short sentence about his opinion of the danger of contracting the swine flu via close quarters in travel. His words were taken out of context and made to look like he was curtailing the tourism industry, but that was not at all what he said or meant by those words. He simply said HE, personally, would not do so, not that the rest of the free world should do so!!!!!
Come on travel and tourism----grow up!!! It is a pretty well documented fact that the re-circulated air in airplanes, and subways or elevated trains, is a breeding ground for all sorts of viruses and potential diseases. If the transit and travel personnel would disinfect after each trip this could go a long way toward curtailing those outbreaks, but they do not because of the time and cost involved. Therefore, it is up to each and every one of us to protect ourselves from the possibility of contracting the swine flu. Wear a mask and wash your hands often!
If this were not a serious situation the CDC would not have sent up an alert level of five and they would not be pressed to develop a rapid cure for this virus. Many schools who have had students test positive for the swine flu are closing temporarily and that is a very good thing. While the schools are closed they can be disinfected to prevent further outbreaks. There is no room for panic, but there is room for an increased public awareness and with that awareness comes some personal responsibility too! Do you part to stop the spreading of swine flu by taking the appropriate precautions, wear a mask and wash your hands. If you or someone in your family has symptoms do not go to work or school. If the symptoms worsen seek professional attention.
To blame Vice-President Biden´s taking a pro-active stance in this matter is ridiculous. Last time I checked we could all offer our personal opinions on an array of topics and his comments are exactly offered in that vein. They are his opinions and perhaps those opinions will shape his actions just as yours or mine will shape ours. Stop the bickering about his choice of words and move on to more pressing matters. He is a very good man who is dealing with a lot of serious matters in our country and abroad at this time. He deserves our support. Words taken out of context just emphasize the pettiness of some parties, members of the media, and other officials. Pettiness does nothing to solve the problems facing America or the world! So if you want to do something meaningful be part of the solution and not a contributor to the problem.
