When Will the Republican Party Throw in the Towel?

Dale Netherton
While the Democrats plunge into self destruction the Republicans keep trying to resurrect the party that wouldn´t live up to its mission. It won´t work. There are too many people that want the Republican party to become a semi-theocracy which of course will transition into a full blown theocracy. Meanwhile the subjectivist Democrats just want to wield power and trial and error themselves into chaos. A recent poll indicated many American people think the country is headed in the right direction. Evidently these Americans don´t know the first thing about the history of socialism and its repeated failures. If you look at religious tenets and the teachings of socialism you will find many similarities which explains why America elects leaders that reflect these misdirections.

As abhorrent as the Democrats pragmatism is, it outscores the bowing heads of the Republicans sheepishly admitting they made some mistakes. Pushing the country into bankruptcy and challenging the Democrats in an election by talking of a limited government was simply unbelievable. They chanted loyalty but they forgot about loyalty to the principle of limited government. The conservative leg of the Republican party is such a mishmash of contradictory "absolutes" if you threw a group of conservatives in a barrel and pulled one out, it wouldn´t possibly match the next one. All seem to be united on getting the government to force women to have children. This they call pro-life while denying the right of the pregnant woman to decide whether she wants to have a child or not. Forcing people to act against their best judgement can never lead to a limited government that protects individual rights.

Could the Republicans step up to the plate and make the necessary changes required to make them politically viable again? No. What ever emerges from political renovation of the Republicans will not be recognizable Republicanism. The kind of change the Republicans require is a rejection of their past and the me-tooism that characterized it. The taint of "Republican" is like the stink of a skunk. It doesn´t just wash off and it requires a special treatment. A good beginning would be to announce the Republican Party no longer exists. To claim the Republican party is going to reform is like bringing back the Essex. The Democrats are going nowhere and they will dance off the stage with a reputation for eclecticism and the old standby spending.

A new party will have to emerge to rejuvenate political activity in America. That party will have to present a strong statement for limited government as the lesson the Democrats have taught us that too much government trying to run everything is suicidal and counterproductive. The new party will have to delineate the exact role of the government along with an understanding that unless there is a complete divorce between government and economics the stability of the currency and the economy will eventually face what we are facing now. How this will happen is the formulation of the party and the manifesto of its principles. From this manifesto will emerge the reasoning for its existence and why the alternatives that have been found wanting are no longer viable for consideration. Much like the Declaration of Independence the manifesto will be the beginning of a movement toward putting the brakes on government and outlining its nature and activities that it will be permitted to engage in. The document will describe the reasons for this need for diminishing the powers of the state and why the primary concern will center on a central purpose of protecting individual rights. As both parties now have violated individual rights neither can emerge as a champion for this cause.

The tea parties were a prelude to the new beginning if there is to be one. Either we can continue to drift into the covert socialism the Democrats claim is something other than what it is or we can project and define a new political vision that is beyond the current view. A recognition of the disruption and destruction of government will be necessary. A recognition of individual responsibility without the shackles of government will be required. The entitlement mentality will need to be reduced and shown for what damage it causes. People who want to earn and keep what they earn will be the dominant movers and they will need to be constantly competitive. All the dependencies that today´s politicians have glommed onto to exploit at the ballot box will be a minor presence. The constant cry of altruism will be met with moral outrage. The pandering will be identified for what it is and rejected. A consistent long term platform will emerge that will convince voters of the wisdom of its approach. Candidates will challenge the follies of both parties of the past and eventually the new party will begin to win. Old style politicians will be instantly recognized by their age old rhetoric of dependency and challenged to defend their past. With no answers they will crawl back under the rocks the intellectually deficient hide under.

If this path does not emerge the deterioration of socialism will continue unchallenged. The tea parties indicate this is not something America will take lying down. Even a sycophant media cannot convince viewers of the unreasonable. With a clear ideology and a plan of implementation it is very difficult for a vacuous mob to gain support. The bigger the Democrats failure the sooner the new party can come into existence. Will Libertarianism emerge? Not likely, the Libertarians are a loosely knit mob that pay homage to free market principles but like the Republicans try to defend it with political activism. They, like the Republicans, want political power first and clearly defined policies later. The clearly defined never appeared for the Republicans and will not for the Libertarians either. Consequently a consistent platform cannot emerge and only a pile of suicidal compromises is the result.

Meanwhile the Republicans must realize they are defunct. Trying to corral old horses to pull a chariot they tipped over isn´t working. The opportunity the Republicans had was dumped in favor of hoping to get a substantial following of religious conservatives and this created a soup that never gelled. A person that starts over must denounce the ways of his past and act appropriately. A political party trying to gain trust after a major blunder will find its credibility irretrievable. Who would believe the Republicans would not revert to the Bush spending? Make no mistake the tea parties addressed repeatedly the issue of government spending. Both parties have this as a major part of their agenda. The Republicans started the avalanche and cannot now revert to "we really didn´t mean it".

It is time for the Republicans to throw in the towel and go off into political oblivion with the Democrats following closely behind. America doesn´t need political parties that pander and do the same old legalized criminal crap the ages have recorded. We need to fulfill what the founding fathers gave us a glimpse of, freedom for the individual and the protection of individual rights. That cannot be accomplished with parties intent on redistribution and unlimited taxation.
