DigitalFilipino.com Club has cited a local software company for the second straight year as having the Best Corporate/Professional website in the Philippines.

Syntactics Inc. is a Cagayan de Oro city based start-up software development company set up by partners Stephanie Rosalind P. Caragos and Wilfredo J. Kaamiño, Jr., now its Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, respectively. It provides quality services in Software Development, Web Designing, Web Development, Search Engine Optimization, and Business Consultancy.

The DigitalFilipino.com Web Awards awards ceremony was held November 5, 2008 Wednesday at Taste Asia, Mall of Asia. DigitalFilipino.com Club is a community of e-commerce professionals and enthusiasts.

Websites in forty (40) categories were reviewed and judged for their ability to create a noticeable presence on the Internet — their ability to be seen and heard among all the noise and clutter of the Net," said Digital.Filipino.com CEO Janette Toral. "Commercial websites were also reviewed for their ability to conduct e-commerce, in a simple yet professional manner. "

The DigitalFilipino.com Web Awards advocates use of the Internet and e-Commerce for business development, through the identification, promotion, and highlighting of best e-Commerce practices from various websites in the Philippines, said Ms. Toral, a writer, SEO consultant, trainer, blogger, policy lobbyist, and entrepreneur.

All entries were nominated by the public last September to October 2008 and were judged by members of the DigitalFilipino.com Club.

Through this project, we hope to increase the awareness and promotion of outstanding websites and to get a better understanding of the benefits of the Internet, as well as the various ways in which e-Commerce can play a vital part in business development," Ms. Toral said.

Syntactics started out as Elite Business Systems with one PC, a scanner and a printer in a small office sub-let by Ms. Caragos' family for a song. They had no salaries and contented themselves with a P300 allowance at the start, plowing back all profits into the business. By their third year, they began turning a profit and started hiring people.

With the help of the Dept. of Trade and Industry (DTI), the duo adopted the Capability Maturity Model Integration, an ISO for software engineering which enabled them to handle several projects at once and considerably lowered the software development cycle.

At present, Syntactics offers Data Mining, Accounting Software Development, SEO - Internet Marketing and Website Design. It has capability in PHP MySQL, Postgres SQL, Visual Foxpro, MS SQL, Flash Animation, Web Design using CSS, HTML, DHTML and XHTML.

In October 2006, EBS was incorporated as Syntactics Inc. with three new partners: Ms. Caragos Dad Salvador Caragos, Jr. who brought over 30 years of banking and finance expertise to the growing start-up; elder sister Melanie Talimio and her husband Ray who brought in their accounting and finance experience and portfolio of clients.

Kuya Ray and Manang Mimi brought us 19 years of expertise in their profession which will serve us in good stead as we eye BPO services overseas, more specifically back office operations," Ms. Caragos.

Trade undersecretary for operations, Carisa Evangelista has cited Cagayan de Oro among the good BPO locations outside Metro Manila. Government authorities have also ranked it eight among the top 20 New Wave Cities for BPOs in the Philippines.
